She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the Altar Society, spending many hours volunteering her time and talent. He learned how to do taxidermy and target archery in his thirties, learned to play banjo in his forties and golf in his fifties and coached the high school golf team a few years.
He completed several large stained glass windows for the family homes in Newton and Bella Vista. He was happiest when he was into his next project such as putting up fence for Natalie’s ponies rebuilding sport cars, first for son Jeff and later for himself rebuilding a houseboat in the backyard and later launched and used for frequent outings with family and Hesston fishing buddies on the Council Grove and Melvern reservoirs in Kansas helping on a major rework of the family home which included family sleeping under the stars one night after the entire roof was removed to be replaced the next. He loved to go dancing anywhere, anytime, with wife Jane. He believed his military experience was most influential in teaching him about commitment and work ethic.
He was also in the Naval Reserves for 10 years. He was trained in deep sea diving during that service. He was a Navy veteran serving on a small transport carrier, the USS Cape Esperance, out of San Francisco, making monthly trips to Japan just prior to the Vietnam Conflict. He sincerely cherished his years with students. in Industrial Education following which he was a teacher in the Hesston, KS school district for 24 years. He attended Newton, KS, schools and graduated from Bethel College, North Newton, KS, with a B.S. Pete was preceded in death by his parents Orie and Rita, brothers, Vic and Doug Davis, Sr., sisters Wanda Nierman, Naomi Fortney and Patty Perkins. He also leaves behind his beloved furry companions, Muggs and Bitsy. He is survived by wife Jane of the home daughter Natalie Jo (Davis) Walkup and husband Mike of Bella Vista son Jeffrey Ransom Davis and companion Eryn Myrick of Topeka, KS granddaughter Jessica Walkup sister Billie Jean Barker and husband Duane of Hesston, KS brother-in-law Richard Nierman and wife Susie of Shell Knob, MO and numerous nieces and nephews. He married Ruth Jane Ransom of Ottawa, KS, at Newton in 1956. He was born in Newton, Kansas to Orie, Sr. Davis, Jr., of Bella Vista, Arkansas passed away at home Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the age of 77 years due to the toll of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
